After contacting the Écoute Center for Auditory Training, your child will be given an appointment for an initial assessment.

During the assessment, we will determine the condition of your child's listening ability through a series of specialized tests and an interview. Based on all the information gathered at the initial assessment, an individual Listening Program will be designed for your child by the Tomatis Consultant.

During the therapy, the child will be listening to the music of Mozart and Gregorian chants, and do some voice exercises. The music will be modified by the Electronic Ear according to the individual listening program that has been designed for your child.

During the passive phase of therapy, the child will draw, paint, play games, do exercises that increase their sensory awareness or that improve balance and coordination. During the active phase, vocal exercises are added, guided by a Listening Therapist.

In between the three phases, the child will be given several Listening Tests to assess his or her development as the program progresses.

The Listening program consists of three (3) phases: The first phase lasts for ten (10) days. There is a two (2) hour session on each of these days. The second phase begins four (4) weeks after completion of the first phase. This phase lasts for ten (10) days – two (2) hours each day. The third phase begins four (4) weeks after completion of the second phase. This phase lasts for another ten (10) days – two (2) hours each day.

Your child's progress and development will be re-assessed at the beginning and end of each phase. At the final meeting with the consultant, recommendations for follow-up and further treatment will be made where appropriate. While three (3) phases of the Tomatis Method may be enough for some children, experience has taught us that other children benefit from further phases of therapy.
